Food Defense

In early 2002, The Department of Homeland Security passed The Bio-Terrorism Act. In this act, they named 17 infrastructures that are critical to the way that our country is run. Our nations’ food production and manufacturing plants were one of the infrastructures deemed critical. Today, 6 years later, on top of HACCP, Allergen Plans, FDA and/or USDA, and health inspections (just to name a few), we in the food production industry have yet another procedure that we must prepare and implement in our facilities-a Food Defense Plan. In a nutshell, food defense is a program to prevent the intentional contamination of your products.

We here at JSC Services are industry leaders on the subject of food defense. We have both the experience and knowledge to write the type of plan that your company needs. We spend 2 days in your plant, doing an inspection and collecting all of the information we need. 3 weeks later we return for a final day and present the 100-200 page plan (depending on company size) to your company, and go through it page by page with you. It is at that time we work with your employees and help them implement the plan into action.

Food Defense is not yet mandatory. However, traceability and registering your facility with the FDA both are. With the purchase of our food defense plan, you will receive our fully compliant Traceability Program, and we will register you with the FDA as well. We firmly believe that in the near future, food defense will become mandatory in all food production plants. Whether a customer is demanding it of you, or you simply want to separate yourself from your competitors, our food defense plans will more than satisfy both.

Food Defense Mock Audit

You will never look at your plant the same again once you go through a food defense audit. It is quite an eye opener. We perform a thorough audit of your entire facility, just as A.I.B. or an FDA inspector does. After the inspection, you will receive a report of our findings, as well as suggested solutions to the problem(s). This is a complete inspection by a food defense expert, with none of the consequences and repercussions of an actual audit.

*You will also receive a free FDA food defense self inspection guide after the audit.

Employee Training

Having a food defense plan means nothing if the employees are not carrying out the actions defined in the plan. We are qualified to train everyone from your hourly employees to your senior management on the subject. A large part of any food defense or HACCP Plan is employee training and retraining. Employee training needs will vary from plant to plant. Contact Us for more information.
